  • Metal Chaos Space Marine Slaanesh Marine Emperor’s Children

    This guy was a 1990 Jes Goodwin sculpt – part number 070378/3 – though he had a recent limited run release in metal in 2023 or so. This guy is not from the new run.

  • Space Marine in Mark 2 Armour

    This metal Space marine wearing Mark 2 armour is “Mark 2 Crusader Armour #1” in the 1997 Space Marine Legends catalogue and is a Jes Goodwin sculpt. He has 1990 on the tab and he was part number 070270/14.

    • Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black
    • Blue: Scale75 Art Cobalt Blue
    • Base: Scale75 Red Ochre, drybrushed with a mix of Red Ochre and Honey Moon Yellow, further drybrush with a little bit of The White mixed in
    • Silver: Black Metal

    Vintage Metal 1990 Khorne Berserker World Eater Space Marine

    This is Jes Goodwin’s 1990 sculpt of a World Eater, which really set the mold for the aesthetic from then on. The earlier guys were much more… organic looking, and the Dave Andrews sculpts in the 1992 catalogue are more reminiscent of the earlier Rogue Trader sculpts than what came later. Part number 070378/4.

    He appears in White Dwarf 135 as “World Eater Space Marine of Khorne with Chainsword and Boltgun”:

    Colours used:

    Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black

    Black: Kimera Phthalo Green mixed with The Red.

    Red: Scale75 Burgundy Wine Red, then Primary Red/Crimson/Intense Yellow. Then shading with Sap Green and Kimera Ultramarine Blue, then tinted with Scalecolor Artist Red Ink and Yellow Ink diluted with Vallejo Airbrush Flow Improver.

    Gold: Burnt Sienna Umber, Yellow Oxide and Intense Yellow, with a little bit of Pro Acryl Titanium White. Then I got the Kimera base set and tried mixing up a chromatic black out of The Red and Phthalo Green, a brown out of Phthalo Green and Red Oxide and then stippling a little Warm Yellow with edge highlighting of Cold Yellow and The White. Corrosion is Phthalo Green and then some Oxide Green + The White. Couldn’t nail the NMM, so I went back to Necro Gold + Elven Gold + Citrine Alchemy with Bold Titanium White highlights, washed with Scale Artist Chestnut Ink. Shaded with Kimera Phthalo Green.

    Green: Kimera Cold Yellow (PY151 Benzimidazolone Yellow) mixed with Phthalo Blue Green Shade (Cu-Phthalo Blue).

    Leather: Kimera The White, with Oxide Brown Light over that, shaded with Royal Brown, highlighted with a mix of Royal Brown and The White.

    Silver: Black Metal, shaded with thinned Royal Brown, spots of rust with Mars Orange, highlights with Speed Metal.

    Pigments: Vallejo Light Sienna and Titanium for the skulls. Rim in Vallejo Black Grey.

    This chap is in Mark 3 Iron Armour and is part number 070270/10. He’s a Jes Goodwin 1990 sculpt.

    This metal Warhammer 40K Space Marine miniature is shown in the 1997 Legends catalogue as part number 070270/13. He’s a 1990 Jes Goodwin sculpt, representing the armour worn by the Thunder Warriors (predecessors to the Space Marines).

    Space Marine, Crusade Suit Mark II

    This metal Warhammer 40K Space Marine in Mark II Crusade Armour is one of the Armour Variants sculpts by Jes Goodwin. He’s a 1990 sculpt. It was part number 070270/8 in the 1991 Blue Catalogue.

    As far as I’m aware this would be the first Mark II armour sculpt (some 32 years old at the time of writing).

    Blue: Scale75 Artist Cobalt, built up to Primary Blue, down to Prussian Blue, highlighted with Primary Blue/Art White mix.

    Gold: Necro Gold, Viking Gold, Elven Gold, Citrine Alchemy then White Alchemy. Shaded with Chestnut Ink.

    Black: Art Black, highlighted with Artic Blue, shaded with Nuln oil.

    Leather: Burnt Skin, shaded with Garaghak’s Sewer, highlighted with Burnt Skin mixed with a little Primary Yellow.

    Silver: Black Metal, shaded with Nuln Oil, highlighted with Speed Metal

    Red: Primary Red highlighted with a mix of Primary Red and Orange.

    Green: Sap Green highlighted with Spring Green and Primary Yellow. Small light dot in Art White.

  • Space Marine, Errant Armour Mark 8

    This guy is one of the few Warhammer 40K Space Marines to come with Errant Armour (Mark 8) and is a 1990 sculpt. He’s part number 70106/57 or 070360/1. I can’t find a single sculpting credit for him but I’d be surprised if it was anyone other than Jes Goodwin.

    I painted this chap up as a squad leader for a Tactical squad, and did his left knee in chequered company colours. A WIP of his knee:
