  • Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Metal Space Marine Brother Kitt 070119 34

This guy was Brother Kitt, aka Space Marine with Power Axe 2, part number 070119/34.

He seems to be named after Eartha Kitt, who played Catwoman in the third season of the 1960s Batman TV show.

  • Metal Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Space Marine Lieutenant Commander 070145 11

Metal Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Space Marine Lieutenant Commander 070145 11

This guy was a lieutenant commander and was part number 070145/11. He was one of two Firstborn Lieutenant models I’m aware of – the other is Lieutenant with Power Sword and Bolt Pistol. He’s a Mark Copplestone sculpt.

Note the marking on his forehead. As per the How to paint Space Marines book:

    • Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black
    • Blue: Scale75 Art Cobalt Blue, shaded with Dark Prussian Blue and Prussian Blue. Highlight with Primary Blue and Titanium White
    • Base: Scale75 Art Burgundy Wine Red, skull Buff, rocks Yellow Ochre, drybrush of Golden Flesh, pigment of Reddish Brown in center, then Natural Soil further out, then Sand, then a light brush of Gypsum on the rocks/skull
    • Parchment: Buff, shaded with Buff + Burnt Sienna Umber, text with the latter. Highlight of Buff, then further highlight of Buff + Pro Acryl Titanium White
    • Power sword: Pro Acryl Titanium White, blended to Primary Yellow, then blended to Intense Yellow, then blended to Permanent Orange, then blended to Orange, then blended to Crimson, then Burnt Sienna Umber, then Art Black
    • Bone: Buff, shaded with Garaghak’s Sewer. Bone end to sword was Scale75 Art Off White, shaded with watered down Burnt Sienna Umber, highlighted with Off White and Titanium White
    • Rim: Vallejo Black Grey Model Colour
    • Yellow: Titanium White then Primary Yellow, shaded with Intense Yellow, further shading with Primary Yellow + Pro Acryl Bold Pyrrole Red
    • Red: Bold Pyrrole Red, shaded with Art Black, highlighted with Primary Yellow, dot of Titanium White
    • Gauntlet: Prussian Blue mixed with Titanium White, Art Black and Titanium White. A little bit of the yellows in the underside reflection.
    • Eye lenses: Spring Green, shaded with Art Black, highlighted with Primary Yellow then Ardcoat.

I pushed the blue darker to contrast a bit more with the sword and make it stand out. I had to try something different with this power weapon – the three facets on each side meant that the technique I used previously didn’t work out quite how I had hoped.

  • Metal Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Brother Froth Space Marine

Metal Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Brother Froth Space Marine

This guy was a 1987 GW sculpt! He was shown as Brother Froth initially, but by 1988 he had changed his name to Brother Sheer and acquired a sight on his gun and a fatter pauldron – likely to fix a casting issue with the old design. At any rate this is the earlier iteration! I can’t find him in the 1991 catalogue unlike most of his brothers.

Someone at some point seems to have filed down the studs on his left pauldron.

  • Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Imperial Land Raider RTB5 RTB11 Vintage Games Workshop

This is the Imperial Land Raider from August 1988 – released in the RTB5 box (two came in that box) and the RTB11 box (one came in that one).

White Dwarf 104 (Aug ’88) has them for £12.99, available late summer.

White Dwarf 170 (Feb 1994) states that it’s a new release as a boxed set for £12.99. Was it discontinued for a spell? Or is that just a re-release? As shown in WD170:

This is the best condition one I could find locally; it’s missing a few parts, unfortunately.

It’s also in need of a good clean and strip.

  • Metal Rogue Trader Space Marine with Terminator Honours, Bolter and Bayonet 070145 6

This guy is part number 070145/6 and is one of three Rogue Trader Space Marines with Terminator Honours.

  • Vintage Rogue Trader Imperial Guard Rapier

This appears in the 1988 catalogue as the Imperial Guard Rapier along with two crewman. Designed by Michael Perry.

Assembly ought to go as shown:

This model is featured in the April 1988 edition of White Dwarf, stating the following:

Rapier carriers are incorporated into Imperial Army forces at both the company and regimental level. Each troop company has a support squad which ideally includes 5 Rapier carriers as well as other mobile support weapons such as Mole Mortars. In practice, the natural attrition of campaigning tends to mean that support squads operate with whatever they can get! They are easily distinguished by their blue ‘artillery’ uniforms, with yellow shoulder pads bearing the company insignia. Individual Rapiers are also used in the front line to support infantry squads.

At the regimental level, Rapiers and other heavy weapons are organised into whole support companies. These unwieldy outfits are used to provide heavy bombardments or en masse support for major offensives. In theory, a company comprises 10 machines, often divided between 2 types, such as 5 Rapiers and 5 Mole-Mortars. But. they are often reduced to so few weapons that they are forced into a supporting role on the battlefield, rather like the company support squads.

Regimental support companies wear the same blue tunics as the company support squads, but with a distinctive red shoulder pad rather than yellow.

    Artist unknown! From WD100

    Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black

Silver: Black Metal, drybrush of Thrash Metal, drybrush of Cobalt Alchemy, drybrush of White Alchemy, wash of Nuln Oil (old formulation), wheels washed again with Seraphim Sepia

  • Metal Space Marine with Meltagun 0808 2 2nd. Edition Games Workshop

This guy is part number 0808/2 and was one of three special weapons Marines sculpted in the year before 2nd. Edition.

The 1993 catalogue which shows them says that the miniatures on that page are designed by Jes Goodwin and Normal Swales – not sure if it was a joint effort or whether one did the Devastators also shown and the other the special weapons.

    Says 1992 on the tab!
