    This guy came as part of the RT107 Rhino crew member set, and is part number 070145/5. He’s seen in the July 1988 issue of White Dwarf (103) and is crew member number 3 there, painted in the colours of the Blood Drinkers:

  • Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Space Marine Brother Napier 070119 33

    This guy is shown as Brother Napier in the early flyers and is part number 070119/33 (Bolt Pistol/Power Fist) in the later catalogues.

    He seems to be named after Alan Napier, who played Alfred in the 1960s Batman TV show.

    This guy was Captain Crabb aka Space Marine with Bolt Pistol and Hand Flamer, part number 070119/19.

  • Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Metal Space Marine Brother Kitt 070119 34

    This guy was Brother Kitt, aka Space Marine with Power Axe 2, part number 070119/34.

    He seems to be named after Eartha Kitt, who played Catwoman in the third season of the 1960s Batman TV show.

    This guy was one of three power armoured Rogue Trader Librarians and is part number 070145/8.

    • Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black
    • Blue: Scale75 Art Cobalt Blue, lightened by mixing in Kimera’s The White, shaded by mixing in Kimera’s Orange
    • Black: Kimera’s Carbon Black, highlighted by mixing in The White
    • Base Rim: Vallejo Black Grey Model Color
    • Base: PVA glue, sand, Soilworks Reddish Brown, Soilworks Natural Soil, Soilworks Sand
    • Sword: Kimera’s Cold Yellow, Orange and The Red mixed with Carbon Black. Highlighted by mixing in The White
    • Leather: The Red mixed with Phthalo Green
    • Bone colour/parchment: Cold Yellow mixed with The Red, lightened with The White, washed with Targor Rageshade
    • Skin: The White, Guilliman Flesh, then a mix of Cold Yellow and The Red with The White. Purplish bits on the bulge on his forehead were Sigvald Burgundy.

    Metal Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Space Marine Lieutenant Commander 070145 11

    This guy was a lieutenant commander and was part number 070145/11. He was one of two Firstborn Lieutenant models I’m aware of – the other is Lieutenant with Power Sword and Bolt Pistol. He’s a Mark Copplestone sculpt.

    Note the marking on his forehead. As per the How to paint Space Marines book:

    • Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black
    • Blue: Scale75 Art Cobalt Blue, shaded with Dark Prussian Blue and Prussian Blue. Highlight with Primary Blue and Titanium White
    • Base: Scale75 Art Burgundy Wine Red, skull Buff, rocks Yellow Ochre, drybrush of Golden Flesh, pigment of Reddish Brown in center, then Natural Soil further out, then Sand, then a light brush of Gypsum on the rocks/skull
    • Parchment: Buff, shaded with Buff + Burnt Sienna Umber, text with the latter. Highlight of Buff, then further highlight of Buff + Pro Acryl Titanium White
    • Power sword: Pro Acryl Titanium White, blended to Primary Yellow, then blended to Intense Yellow, then blended to Permanent Orange, then blended to Orange, then blended to Crimson, then Burnt Sienna Umber, then Art Black
    • Bone: Buff, shaded with Garaghak’s Sewer. Bone end to sword was Scale75 Art Off White, shaded with watered down Burnt Sienna Umber, highlighted with Off White and Titanium White
    • Rim: Vallejo Black Grey Model Colour
    • Yellow: Titanium White then Primary Yellow, shaded with Intense Yellow, further shading with Primary Yellow + Pro Acryl Bold Pyrrole Red
    • Red: Bold Pyrrole Red, shaded with Art Black, highlighted with Primary Yellow, dot of Titanium White
    • Gauntlet: Prussian Blue mixed with Titanium White, Art Black and Titanium White. A little bit of the yellows in the underside reflection.
    • Eye lenses: Spring Green, shaded with Art Black, highlighted with Primary Yellow then Ardcoat.

    I pushed the blue darker to contrast a bit more with the sword and make it stand out. I had to try something different with this power weapon – the three facets on each side meant that the technique I used previously didn’t work out quite how I had hoped.

    Metal Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Brother Froth Space Marine

    This guy was a 1987 GW sculpt! He was shown as Brother Froth initially, but by 1988 he had changed his name to Brother Sheer and acquired a sight on his gun and a fatter pauldron – likely to fix a casting issue with the old design. At any rate this is the earlier iteration! I can’t find him in the 1991 catalogue unlike most of his brothers.

    Someone at some point seems to have filed down the studs on his left pauldron.

    • Blue: Scale75 Art Cobalt Blue, shaded with Prussian Blue, highlighted with Pro Acryl Titanium White mixed with Cobalt Blue
    • Red: Pro Acryl Bold Pyrrole Red, highlighted with Golden Yellow, shaded with Targor Rageshade
    • Lenses: Scale75 Art Spring Green, highlighted with Golden Yellow, shaded with Art Black, dot of Titanium White
    • Silver: Scale75 Heavy Metal, shaded with Targor Rageshade, highlighted with Heavy Metal and Speed Metal
    • Symbols: Cobalt Blue mixed with Titanium White
    • Base: PVA + Noch Ballast, then Dark Mud, Natural Soil and Sand on the base, Natural Soil on the legs, and Vallejo Wild Tuft – Dry – 6mm used cut in half.
  • Rogue Trader Warhammer 40K Imperial Land Raider RTB5 RTB11 Vintage Games Workshop

    This is the Imperial Land Raider from August 1988 – released in the RTB5 box (two came in that box) and the RTB11 box (one came in that one).

    White Dwarf 104 (Aug ’88) has them for £12.99, available late summer.

    White Dwarf 170 (Feb 1994) states that it’s a new release as a boxed set for £12.99. Was it discontinued for a spell? Or is that just a re-release? As shown in WD170:

    This is the best condition one I could find locally; it’s missing a few parts, unfortunately.

    It’s also in need of a good clean and strip.
